Diabetes Blood Sugar Range
Blood sugar levels are one of the indicators of diabetes. For a normal person, the blood sugar level remains
between 80 to 120 mg/dl immediately after waking up in the morning. This can go up to 120 to 160 mg/dl two hours
after consuming food. The diabetes blood sugar range is consistently higher than these levels, over a period of
time. Diabetes is a disorder where the body is unable to properly metabolize sugar. It can either be due to low
insulin production, or a low reaction to insulin, which means greater quantities are required by the body. Insulin
is primarily responsible in the burning up of sugar for energy in the body. It is also the trigger for converting
glucose into glycogen to be stored in the liver and muscles for future use.
Inadequate insulin production or improper absorption of insulin in the cells can lead
to the body not being able to properly utilize sugar in the body. Since the body cannot burn or store
sugar properly, it stays in the bloodstream where it can affect a lot of organs. Too high a level and it
can affect the circulatory system. Too much blood sugar can affect the kidneys and may cause kidney
failure in extreme cases. High blood sugar may affect eyesight too.
One of the ways of controlling the blood sugar is through medication. There are some others that can help keep
it in check. Five bullet points...
